While I still use the PSTN (via cell only now), I have dropped my POTS line a few months ago - just didn't use it.<div>I do have a dry-loop for DSL</div><div><br></div><div>It's a hard to decouple from a system that has been mandated and financially supported for so long, but I do use VoIP-VoIP for family and conference calls - no DIDs there :-)</div>

Perhaps **email-address would be a good standard - guarantees unique<br>
names and it could be obtained from existing contacts and billing<br>

IE - the carrier sends your bill to your email already why not auto<br>
register you for the StarStar Email service.<br>
