MTS doesn't support static IPs on residential lines. Unless you want to upgrade to one of their business accounts, which puts you into >$80/month territory. <div><br></div><div>One option that I use for this exact reason, is <a href="http://les.net">les.net</a>. Les gives you a static IP right off the bat - and you have the option of gettings /29's for $5/month. </div>
<div><br></div><div>Assuming you have a dry-loop installed, you can use whatever modem you want to connect to the DSLAM, as all it does is send stuff over the wire. You're under no obligation to run what MTS offers.</div>

It has been over 10 years since I cared to know but does anyone on this list have any experience with or know what DSL services are required to get a static IP (and a dynamic as well) from our friends at MTS (and I don't want to entertain a dyn-dns option, less knobs means less to break)?<br>

The only hard-wired broadband available in a particular area of Manitoba is MTS DSL so it's not like I have a choice. :P<br>

As well, with the new service... can you refuse their router to get a plain simple modem?<br>
Can one just go an buy a 2/2+ DSL modem?<br>
